Kim Dotts has been teaching piano for over twenty years. She has also been teaching music in public schools since she graduated from Penn State University, State College, PA, with an Honors Degree in Music Education in 1988. Mrs. Dotts studied piano and pedagogy with Dr. Timothy Shafer while at PSU and was active as a choir member, vocal soloist, and accompainist for many university choirs.
Mrs. Dotts taught middle school music at the Monticello Central School District, Monticello, NY upon graduation from college, where she also served the community as a private piano instructor and choir director at a local Reformed Temple.
Returning to State College in 1995, Mrs. Dotts resumed middle school music teaching for the State College Area School District. While living in Pennsylvania, she opened her own piano studio that accommodated 30 private students per week. In addition to her teaching, she was also the adult and children's choir director at a local church.
In October of 2005, Mrs. Dotts, her husband, and three children relocated to Las Vegas, where she is now employed by the Clark County School District as an elementary music specialist trained in the Orff-Schulwerk approach. Once again, Mrs. Dotts has opened her own piano studio, where, with over 20 years experience, she specializes in group piano instruction for beginners. Mrs. Dotts was thrilled to be the Lummis ES honoree in May 2008 as the Summerlin Children's Forum Teacher of the Year.
